What is depression?

Depression is a common medical condition affecting around one in four women and one in ten men at some time in their lives. Friends and family who are not aware that this is a medical condition may talk about "snapping out of it". However, a lack or certain chemical messengers in the brain cause depression. By taking your prescribed tablets, this will help balance the levels or these chemicals and lift your depression. Even when you start to reel better you should continue to take your tablets for as long as your doctor tells you.
